#WritersForUkraine: An Activated Authors Charity Fundraising Drive
I’ll be taking part in the Writers For Ukraine - One Million Word Challenge, a charity fundraising drive organized by Daniel Willcocks of Activated Authors.
From March 9 - March 15, 2022, participating writers around the world will come together to write a collective one million words to represent and honor the now over one million refugees who have already fled their homes due to the ongoing violence in Ukraine.
Donations made during the event will support British-Ukrainian Aid, a UK-based organization dedicated to providing humanitarian aid to those affected by the war in Ukraine including orphaned children; the injured, wounded, and disabled; and the elderly.
It can be exceedingly difficult to read or watch the news each day or log onto social media and see such widespread suffering in real time. We are watching the largest mass exodus since World War II documented live by newscasters and ordinary citizens alike, and it's easy to feel powerless in the face of such violent upheaval. This fundraiser is a small way for the writing community to show its support to those most affected by the fighting.
Daniel Willcocks is a pillar of the online writing community and a long-time supporter of independent authors in the horror community and beyond. I’m so grateful to him for organizing this fundraiser and giving writers the opportunity to support Ukrainian citizens displaced by such senseless violence.
If you’re a writer and would like to participate, you can sign up at ActivatedAuthors.com. If you would simply like to show support, please consider making a donation.
