BOOK REVIEW: Sign Here by Claudia Lux
SIGN HERE feels something akin to Grady Hendrix taking on Johannes Cabal and I am 100% here for it. Claudia Lux is a firecracker and if her debut is this good, I can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve!
I read the audio version of this book on the road to see Def/Crüe this weekend and it was such a delight! There are two plots at play — a murder mystery embroiled in family drama on earth and a tale of unlikely friendship in Hell. The two stories weave together throughout, meeting occasionally until they finally collide in an intense and surprisingly poignant final act.
Claudia Lux designs Hell similarly to the way Beetlejuice tackles the afterlife, and her humor and wit are truly unmatched. The way she is able to balance two wildly colorful and unique casts of characters is something to be admired.
I didn’t really know what to expect going into this book, but I’m so glad I picked it up. It’s an instant favorite for me and I can’t recommend it enough! I highly recommend trying it on audio — the narration, especially for Peyote’s chapters, is fantastic!
TW/CW: mentions of suicide, depictions of self harm.
