BOOK REVIEW: Tomorrow, And Tomorrow, And Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW is nothing short of a masterpiece. Gabrielle Zevin has outdone herself with this one.
This nostalgia-soaked late-90s love letter to video game culture follows Sam and Sadie as they grow from Donkey Kong kids to college creatives to full-blown gaming business tycoons. Throughout the story, the two are friends and enemies, colleagues and almost-lovers, in a relationship arc that is a true master class in character dynamics and characterization.
I grew up on Oregon Trail and Final Fantasy and felt right at home in these pages, but the beauty of this book is its ability to make a video game story palatable to those unfamiliar with the world of Nintendo and Sega. This is a uniquely human tale that used video games as a vehicle to discuss the lives we lead and the people who impact them in ways both big and small.
I know it’s too early to call it, but this may just be my favorite read of 2023.
